WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OSTEO, PHYSIO AND CHIRO?

This is possibly the most common question I get asked!

As Osteo’s we are muscle (function) and bone (structure) experts. We are regulated under the governing body for health professionals (APHRA) and we undertake a 5 year double degree at university. All three professions use manual therapy in our treatments as well as exercise prescription and education. While we exist in the same realm as Physio’s and Chiro’s, we are considered more whole body focused.

We consider factors in your life outside of the musculoskeletal system and understand how external factors (such as sleep, stress etc.) can contribute to pain and injury. 😴 🌱 🏃‍♀️

We also look at the body’s biomechanics. We assess both the site of the pain/injury and the adjacent areas to determine whether it is more of a localised issue or a result of something occurring elsewhere – it’s all CONNECTed!

This allows us to best tailor a management plan to CONNECT people back to better health, movement and performance.

Like any health profession there will be a wide variance between how each practitioner chooses to treat. There are Physio’s and Chiro’s who take a similar approach to Osteopathy and also Osteopath’s who take a similar approach to Physio’s and Chiro’s.

When looking for the right practitioner for you, my advice would be to focus less on the title of the profession and rather find someone that you think you will CONNECT with.

Most allied health practitioners now have large online presences through Instagram or Facebook, this makes it easy for clients to check out local practitioners and see if they will be a good match.

The most important thing is that you feel heard and supported in your pain/injury and are given an appropriate course of treatment and management.
